I don't know if Dr. Tenma was in this movie, but in the anime, he builds Astro to replace his son and then promptly sells him to a circus because Astro could never...well, replace his son. In fact, that's one reason I didn't go see this movie - I was uncertain as to how much of the original plot they kept. Also, Unneccessary Love Interest. Pass.
